‘Leeches’ is the first track this year from innovative South London quintet Lip Filler. It’s a scorching, energetic cut underpinned by a thick, distorted bass line which, joined by dissonant synths and the slow roar of guitar, guides us through a sinister build. Bursting to life at the other end is an instrumental that feels like an alternate reality in which Arctic Monkeys became a metal band. Lyrically, the track “is about someone who’s lost control of the wheel. Letting their bad habits and insecurities get the better of them until they can no longer trust anyone, damaging the relationships of everyone they hold dearest.” Lip Filler are working on a new project, due for release in 2025. -Dan Peeke
